The Milk have announced details of a mammoth twenty-eight-date UK tour throughout March, stopping off at Start The Bus on March 8th.

The Milk are quickly earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting live bands. They were even nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist at the UK Festival Awards this summer, going up against the likes of Bruno Mars and Jessie J. In London alone, the last year has seen The Milk perform rammed-out headline shows across the likes of Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, Dingwalls, The Jazz Cafe, XOYO and Camden Barfly, predominately whilst still unsigned. With a new single scheduled to coincide with the tour, the band’s first extensive UK tour will see them preview songs from their forthcoming debut album, which has been produced by celebrated DJ and remixer Brad Baloo (The Nextmen).
Originally hailing from Cumbria but now based in the big smoke, Woman’s Hour are a four-piece which actually consist of more men than women, and are known to play for less than an hour. They specialise in stripped-down yet dynamic indie- pop which can alternate between delightfully sparse slow jams on Human and more funked up moments such as Jenni, all characterised by singer Fiona’s smooth tones. They are already developing a reputation for rambunctious live performances, and if early recordings are anything to go by they could be in line for some major attention sooner rather than later.

Following this female triumvirate’s triumphant début gig, The Veees return to delight, amaze, seduce and dazzle you with their passionately pared pop inspired by Prince, Serge Gainsbourg, Michael Jackson, Raymond Scott, ESG, Liquid Liquid, Chicago House, experimental and Chanson Francaise. The Veees are bass player Regina , drummer Lou Lou and Anne Gallien, the mesmerising French chanteuse/songwriter/band leader, bass player drummer-percussionniste. Catch them while you can still see the whites of their eyes.
This coming March NNTS are proud to present Memoryhouse. The band initially took form as a collaborative project meant to serve as an artistic outlet for composer Evan Abeele and photographer Denise Nouvion. In September 2011 Memoryhouse released an improved version of their original home-recorded EP The Years on Sub Pop. When it came time to record their debut full-length album, Memoryhouse knew exactly what they wanted. “I think there is an unfortunate tendency for bands to rush their first album jumping into a studio without getting a chance to fully develop their voice,” states Abeele. The new album is titled The Slideshow Effect, and set for released on Sub Pop Records on February 28th. The title speaks to what hasn’t changed for Memoryhouse: their continuing interest in the synthesis of the aural and the visual. Their live show is truly an exciting prospect so we’re really excited to have them down to play at Start The Bus.

Formed in their native Weston-Super-Mare, Towns are four close friends who grew up together with an inspiration taken from 90’s guitar music. Keen to do things their own way Towns have spent 2011 hosting band nights in Bristol, which has seen the likes of Tribes and The Chapman Family headline, releases a cassette through local label Howling Owl Records and continued to write, record and hone their shoegaze inspired sound.

Formed near the end of 2009 from the lifeless bodies of past bands, Spectres were the result of endless games of kitchen football, singstar and scrabble duels that were played out at the former LCS! towers. The band consists of 4 entities, 50% of which have the ability to grow facial foliage, whilst the remaining 50% have the ability to support Sheffield Wednesday, despite being from the deepest wilds of North Devon.
Citizens! are the newest member of the ever-growing Kitsune family. They prove to be a welcome addition to the team with their debut single “True Romance”, which will make you sing and dance almost instantly. True Romance, is a supremely infectious affair, a back-to-the-future job that sounds like an early-70s Bowie-esque vision of the 80s – what Diamond Dogs might have sounded like remixed by Martin Rushent. Citizens! say they despise retro-mania, though they’re steeped in the past – but who cares, they choose their elements well, and they’ve assembled something great out of them. The singer has that tough-fey way of singing that Bowie, and then Steve Harley and pretty much everyone for a few years after him.
The Post War Years are a band from Royal Leamington Spa, who (according to their Myspace page) are Latin/Hard House/Jazz but they have an Alternative/Indie edge about them too. Post War Years consist of Si Critten, Henry Riggs, Tom O’Hare and Fred McLaren. They are all very nice chaps and in some cases close personal friends. They all enjoy a variety of musical styles and it shows, because they have a diverse range of songs evincing Prince to Battles as influences, unified thematically by all being jaw-droppingly great.
Having caught their very first gig at label Tough Love’s night, it was a little shaky but fizzing with promise and with spark, and surprising to hear they’d be delivering a debut album a matter of months later. But oh my, “Unlearn”, released Tough Love is a really special debut. With mixing contributions from Rory Brattwell, James Yuill and D/R/U/G/S, it’s a 10-strong collection of pure, simple, cheek-flushing songs with designs on both your heart and dancing feet.
