Forming over a mutual appreciation of handclaps, cowbells and vocoders, Master Paterson and Monsieur Ashenden are The C90s. In their short time together they have remixed the likes of Late Of The Pier, Headman, Tronik Youth, and most recently Roisin Murphy and Flight Facilities. MixMag labelled The C90s remix of Filthy Dukes “Remix of the Month” last December, and also listed their remix of Headman’s “Dirt” on their “Must Haves” for November.

The blurry electronic pop project of an initially anonymous composer and a video artist from the States – Neon Indian was conceived as a multimedia experience. They combined their music and video into short films, teasers and straight-up pop songs. The buzz around the pair really picked up spring 2009 with a lot of praise and attention from music blogs.

Field Day 2010

This years Field Day left the rain as a distant memory as the sun held out for a glorious event with a magnificent line-up. Electronic mayhem saw Mount Kimbie fill out the Bloggers Delight tent with a rush of experimental dubstep and head boppers. Gilles Peterson introduced Chicago hip hop/jazz collective the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, tailor made for sunset with chilled vibes reaching across the park . Caribou were uplifting, positive and ballsy and unsurprisingly drew a considerable crowd, all eager to catch the psychedelic pop-electronica. The highly anticipated Gold Panda proved a popular draw and Matthew Herbert entertained the crowd, mixing discordant sounds whilst mounting a silver step ladder and finishing his set inside a tent. The juddering techno of Moderat echoed an awe-inspiring headline set that leaves Field Day 2010 as a memorable one. Its just finding that there is not enough time to fit it all in, especially having to wait for so long for a beer. Field Day is an evolution of improvement as we pursue the best new music, sound and visual entertainment and this years proved that all the hard work does pay off.

Fight Softly is the second album for Sub Pop by New Zealand’s pop masters The Ruby Suns. Ryan McPhun (their prime mover) has the kind of voracious musical mind that cites as equal influences ‘80s New Jack Swing and modern Angolan kuduro, Fleetwood Mac and Britney Spears, Brazilian tropicalia and Argentinean cumbia. He’s the kind of diligent, meticulous soul that spends days hunched over a laptop in a tiny rented studio in Auckland, NZ just to perfect a sequenced drum track (mission accomplished). Here’s the video for Ninja Tune’s Blockhead’s new single “The Music Scene” from animator Anthony Francisco Schepperd. It’s set in a post-human New York where TV sets are ubiquitous throughout the landscape and animals shift and morph into fleeting shapes that turn into rivers of psychedelic colors cascading through the city. It’s certainly a wild few minutes.

Anthony is an independant animator working in Philadelphia and works almost entirely in flash. Have a look a his website below…
