The C90s

The C90s August Chart Mix by TheC90s

Forming over a mutual appreciation of handclaps, cowbells and vocoders, Master Paterson and Monsieur Ashenden are The C90s. In their short time together they have remixed the likes of Late Of The Pier, Headman, Tronik Youth, and most recently Roisin Murphy and Flight Facilities. MixMag labelled The C90s remix of Filthy Dukes “Remix of the Month” last December, and also listed their remix of Headman’s “Dirt” on their “Must Haves” for November.

Field Day 2010

This years Field Day left the rain as a distant memory as the sun held out for a glorious event with a magnificent line-up. Electronic mayhem saw Mount Kimbie fill out the Bloggers Delight tent with a rush of experimental dubstep and head boppers. Gilles Peterson introduced Chicago hip hop/jazz collective the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, tailor made for sunset with chilled vibes reaching across the park . Caribou were uplifting, positive and ballsy and unsurprisingly drew a considerable crowd, all eager to catch the psychedelic pop-electronica. The highly anticipated Gold Panda proved a popular draw and Matthew Herbert entertained the crowd, mixing discordant sounds whilst mounting a silver step ladder and finishing his set inside a tent. The juddering techno of Moderat echoed an awe-inspiring headline set that leaves Field Day 2010 as a memorable one. Its just finding that there is not enough time to fit it all in, especially having to wait for so long for a beer. Field Day is an evolution of improvement as we pursue the best new music, sound and visual entertainment and this years proved that all the hard work does pay off.

Young Empires

July 29, 2010 (9:00 pm - 3:00 am)

Young Empires – “GLORY of the NIGHT” from Young Empires on Vimeo.

Young Empires are a three piece from Toronto that formed in October 2009. They have already played alongside acts like Sleigh Bells and Wave Machines and own a sound that you may compare to the likes of Friendly Fires and Cut Copy. Flute fused disco punk with chant-like vocals and confident choruses, these could be the next big dance sensation. See why they are making a stir on discerning indie blogs at Start The Bus on the 29th of July.

July 24th – DJ Kentaro

DJ Kentaro from Tim Ferguson on Vimeo.

World famous DJ Kentaro comes to Start The Bus on July 24th.

After 9 years of bringing the finest music events to bristol and beyond, DOP are celebrating with a bargin priced party at our new home of Start the Bus with the most technically incredible dj on the planet.
“DJ Kentaro may be a turntablist – a world-beating turntablist, in fact, having taken the DMC World Championship title in 2002 – but that doesn’t mean that only spotty geezers in puffas and baseball caps need to look out for him. Because hip hop and scratching represent merely one side of Kentaro’s multi-faceted musical persona.” – IDJ Magazine (UK / EU) 10/2003

We Like To Party Presents: The Apples

July 23, 2010 (10:00 pm - 3:00 am)

The Apples – Live
Support To Be Confirmed
Hot off their latest Freestyle Records release- “The Power” E.P.- which includes a treatment of Snap’s 1993 classic smash, the suggestively titled “Upskirt” and their club-shattering version of “Killing in the name…”- the latter appearing on 12” vinyl for the first time. Over the past seven years the nine-strong instrumental group has been folding cuts and scratches from every imaginable source into Big Band blares and Middle Eastern elements on top of a raw and dirty funk base, baking a thick multi-layered sonic treat. Keeping true to their origins as a spontaneous composition ensemble, they kick ideas up and down the stage in a torrent of Decks, Horns, Double Bass, Drums and Electronic Effects.

is on the horizon.

July 16, 2010 (10:00 pm - 3:00 am)

Rising beyond his role as the frontman of the wildly successful 1200 Techniques. The ARIA-winning 1200 Techniques sold over 50,000 albums and captivated audiences with their edgy, raw performances at every major music festival in the nation. Through it all, N’fa penned the charting singles “Hard As Hell”, “Where You At”, “Fork In The Road” and the monster hit “Karma”, which peaked at number four on Triple J’s Hottest 100. Now, with 1200 Techniques taking a well-deserved break, N’fa has channelled his unique talents into his debut solo album Cause An Effect. Evolving and adding to the proven success of his unique hip-hop formula, Cause An Effect takes the listener on a journey of light and shade as it presents hook-laden anthems alongside smooth, reclining rhythms. Support comes from London Buzz band The Saudies.
